Diamond Pipeline.
Diamond where first discovered in India sometime around the eighth century. Soon prospectors scoured India's rivers, endlessly panning and sifting in hopes of finding one of these rare stones. For centuries India was the worlds only known source of diamonds, Thus creating the worlds first diamond pipeline.
In the fifteen hundreds Europeans finally began trading directly with India and the popularity of these gems spread around the world. By the nineteenth century India was not longer the worlds sole supplier.
For a time Brazil's deposits became the worlds best source. That would all change in 1867 when a 21 carat rough was found along the banks of the Orange River in South Africa. Two years later a 47.75 carat rough were definitely found in the same area sparking widespread interest.
When the diamonds where discovered in South Africa, there was a mass influx of people from all over the world who came to seek their fortune. Thousands of prospectors descended upon the sandy banks of the Orange River.
However, before long they began finding diamonds far from the waters edge. One hill in
Particular, was on the farm of Johannes Nicholas and Deartric Arnaldo's De beers.
It appeared almost covered in diamonds. They discovered they could dig down into the ground and diamonds where discovered as deep as they could dig. The De beers farm was sitting in addition to the first pipeline ever found.
Almost overnight the surrounding area became a booming town that the miners called Kimberley, named after the British colonial secretary. From there, prospectors fanned out across South Africa finding more pipe lines and more of those beautiful gemstones.
